For most horse people, when you say G-line they know you're talking about bloodlines relating to Grannus, one of my favorites. I've complied some information on it that I'll post below, but here's my story. Gap, Grazioso 4 (yes G!) is a Gracieux baby by Grannus. Clearly Gap is very dear to me, but if you do any research you'll not only find that Grannus is extremely successful but that it's easy to pick out one of his babies.

So many seem to be black with striking white faces and consistent square jumping style
Now moving on, when I found Fly Away I was specifically looking for the Grannus line, which of course she has on the dam's side, but I came across a the E-line, which of course doesn't hold the same power as the G-line but maybe it'll catch on. Again I'll post some internet findings below, but for now, photos...
Now Fly Away is Grannus on the Dam side, but Escudo II on the sire side, so now to introduce Escudo...

However, as I have been going through all my horse's papers as I mentioned in my last post, there is more of a link than I realized, which goes back to Graphit out of Grande.
Graphit is Grannus' sire, link to Fly Away and Gap as well as CorAgeous on the dam side, but Graphit is also the sire of Grudenstein I whom Royal and Sabre have in their pedigree.
One more step forward, as I just mentioned, CorAgeous has Grannus on the dam side, but she is in foal to Escudo II, crazy right?!
Now here's some info I've gathered on both lines...

A symbol of a potent individual with an aura only a very few are blessed with a lifetime total of well over five million DM so far the off-spring of this glossy black Hanoverian stallion which include seven Olympic horses and more than 60 approved stallions, have made him one of the greatest sires in the world.
Just as powerful as his inheritance is, his end was just as spectacular. In full view of several thousand spectators at Klatte's 1993 Stallion Presentation in Vechta, the heart of the Oldenburg breeding area, the 21 year old muscle man suddenly fell to the ground - the last breath of an equine personality seldom seen. Grannus was State Premium Odessa's second foal.

Grannus didn't disappoint his breeders. His very first crop produced the Warendorf State Stud stallion, Gunter, as well as the internationally successful jumpers, Goby and Gigolo. The latter became one of Nelson Pessoa's first class athletes called Moet Imperial. One right after the other, Grannus' off-spring proved their talent at shows. His first great jumper was the Oldenburg, Grand Slam, who won numerous prizes with Nick Skelton. The most successful Oldenburg jumper during the 80's was the approved stallion, Grannenfels, who demonstrated his outstanding class under Peter Weinberg. Unfortunately, Grannenfels suffered a multiple fracture when he was only nine putting an untimely end to his life. All of a sudden, Grannus had turned into a series producer of international jumpers. For example the bright chestnut, Grannusch, who won the highest pursed jumping competition in the world at Calgary in 1994, Jan Tops ace, Top Gun.Sixty two of his sons have been approved by the various warmblood breeding associations. The first was the Warendorf State Stud sire, Gunter, whose off-spring have won DM 240,656 in total. Then there were stallions such as the 1988 approval winner, Gervantus, whose off-spring have already won more than DM 140,000, or his full brother, Gervantus II, who has been successful in advanced level jumping with Urs Fäh in Switzerland. The grey Hessen stallion, Granulit, who radiates the same presence his father had, won not only the 1996 stallion performance test but also beat all of his Oldenburg competitors for the Main Premium which is awarded on the basis of his own performance and the evaluation of his first crop.
In 1990 the black Grannus son Grannox was approved a perfect example of consolidated performance breeding and in the first five generations of his pedigree, he only carrying the blood of the top Hanoverian and Westphalian sires at that time. The following year produced another son Grannex. Grannex is one of the British sires we see all the time in the result.! He has produced two National Event Champions to date and many excellent Jumpers. Since winning the style prize at the AES National Stallion Show as a 5 year old, Grannex jumped successfully up to International level with Ben Dunning and on the County Show Circuit with Stephen Williams. Grannex's offspring are quite exceptional, many are show jumping and making their way impressively up the top of the ranks including BARONS GRAPHITE who is one of the South West England's 'top Grade A's

THE G-LINE
One of the oldest, the G-line originated over 100 years ago with the Thoroughbred Stallion Goldschaum v. Flagcolet-Chamant. A review of this stallion line over time shows it is the backbone of solid, versatile, athletic horses produced through the state Stud. They are known for their desire and capacity to work. These horse have proven themselves to be among the most talented competition horses in the world.
Goldfisch II gave the line a difinitive stamp, producing 12 licensed sons, 20 States Premium mares, 183 registered mares and over 100 competition horses. His legacy was passed on through his immortal son Gotthard and grandson Grande. The sons and daughters of these stallions dominated world class competition in the 50's, 60's and 70's. So successful and powerful is this line that after more than 60 years, there were 31 direct descendents standing at the state stud. This was 17.5% of the total stallions available, the greatest number for any line! The famous Grande, who was at stud for 25 years was noted for the performance success of his offspring. With Graf, by Goldfisch II from the jumping side and his Duellant mother, Grande combined the best in dressage and jumping bloodlines. Gotthard, in his time, was noted as the top sire of jumping champions. His noted sons include Fardestern, Gluckstern and Gluckspilz.

In dressage, these horses are household names: Gifted, Grundstein, Grunox, Gigalo, Graf George, Girogione and Goldstern. Three Grande sons achieved great fame as sires. Galsritter developed into a producer of jumpers of international class. Garibaldi II sired the U.S. dressage champion Gifted as well as many show jumpers and Graphit sired the well known dressage sires Grundstein I & II. Grundstein I competed very successfully at Grand Prix level and was the leading sire in the FN rankings among stallions in the top ten percent of their age group in both jumping and dressage from 1988-2000. . Graphit is considered in retrospect probably zuchtbedeutendster Grandes son. He left 17 approved stallions and 244 registered mares. His progengy earnings (as of 1990) brought more than 900,000 DM. Although a very prominent sport horse himself, Some of his offspring are among the best in Germany: eg Graf Spee, General, and of course Grannus I and II . Grundstein II's dam Sissy is a daughter of the Sermon I, the blood of the great Hanoverian stallion line Springpferdevererbers and founder leads Senator. Sissy is dam of GOTENFRAU who produeced the stallion Ramiro As (Ramiro Z) . Sissi's dam St.Pr.St.Gotengold was probably one of the best daughters of the legendary Gotthard.

Grande: Graf/SPS Duellfest (Duellant); 1958 - 1989; 16.0H (162cm); Chestnut Hanoverian Stallion. Grande is one of the "blue blooded" names in hanoverian breeding for both jumping and dressage. The Hanoverian G-line is known for it's huge neck, round body style, and wonderful temperament, trainability and talent for both jumping and dressage.

The G-line is a bloodline particularly known for their versatility and is reknowned as the most famous and important producer of international performance horses in both jumping and dressage. Goldfisch II, is the focus of this line of horses, primarily through his descendents Grande and Gotthard. Our goal is to maintain the versatility that the G-line horses are known for while producing a horse with a more modern build.

The Hanoverian G-line is always a guarantee for performance ability, especially for outstanding jumping power.
Graf Grannus’s sire Grannus is one of the most important and prolific jumping sires of our time. His offspring have earned over 5 million euro in competition and competed in multiple Olympics. Also of note Grannus has sired 60 approved sons. Grannus’s dam is of Trakhner descent and carries with her the blood of Gotthard and the foundation mare Klaseta. Odessa successfully foaled 15 times having her last foal at the age of 22. According to the 2007 Hanoverian Stallion Yearbook Graf Grannus offspring have won approximately $544,000 Euro.

Onto the E-Line
Today the A-line has changed to an E-line, with two main groups. One group goes back to the stallion Eindruck II. whose best known son is Einblick in his time a performance test winner and very good in dressage and jumping. Einblick has been used at stud since 1973. This group is considered mainly to be dressage horses, although Einblick himself was also very good in jumping.
The second E-line goes back to the stallion Eisenherz used in breeding since 1972. This group has a bigger influence on the breed than the Eindruck group. The best son of Eisenherz is Eiger 1 who is a very good type and very prepotent. His offspring have both dressage and jumping abilities, and his best son so far, I believe, is the young stallion Espri, used only since 1985. Espri's first group of horses was very convincing.

Eiger I
The best son of Eisenherz has been Eiger I, whose dam, the State Premium mare Alete,
brought the ennobling influence of the Trakehner into the line. Eiger I passed his performance test at Adelheidsdorf in 1978, with above average results in both dressage
and jumping, gaining fourth place overall with a total of 113.66 points. The performance
test winner that year was Großfürst. Among the others of Eiger I’s group were such
greats as Bolero, Pik Bube II, and Don Juan, all of which have had a large influence in
Hanoverian breeding. However, it was Eiger I that was awarded “Best stallion of his
age-group”.
Eiger I passed on to his offspring his very good type, rideability, and correct conformation. His get, like their sire, proved to be dual talented, the most well known being
Empire, ridden by Dr. Martina Fincke, which won over 85,000 DM in dressage at Grand
Prix level, and the internationally successful showjumpers, Esprit FRH (ridden by Lars
Nieberg), and Easy Jumper (ridden by Jos Lansink).
Eiger I was the sire of 35 State Premium mares and seven licensed breeding stallions,
and continues to appear in the damline of many good horses, particularly where the
sire is Warkant. Perhaps the most prominent example of this is the Lauries Crusader xx
son, Londonderry, whose dam is Windsor Queen (Warkant/Eiger I). Frozen semen from
Londonderry has been used with success by New Zealand breeders.
Eiger I was awarded “Hanoverian Stallion of the Year” in 1999 at the age of 24, and died
a few weeks after the ceremony. His line has continued through his most well known
son, Espri. Another son, Evergreen, was exported from Germany to Canada.
Espri
The Hanoverian breeding stallion, Espri, born in 1981, will long be remembered as the
sire of Hugo Simon’s phenomenal showjumper, E.T. FRH, with which Simon won the
World Cup two years in a row (1996, 1997), Individual silver medal at the 1997 European
The Hanoverian E-LineChampionships, and WBFSH Champion three consecutive years (1996 – 1998). Together,
E.T. and Simon won almost one million Euro in competition. However, according to the
2007 Hanoverian Stallion Year Book, Espri has sired a total of 601 competition horses,
352 of which progeny have been placed in jumping competitions, and 113 in dressage,
with winnings totalling almost two million Euro. Among the jumpers, (as well as E.T.)
are Elwood (winnings of 114,433 Euro) and Explosiv (95,620 Euro).
Espri’s dressage offspring include Esprit de
Valdemar, which represented Denmark in the
World Cup and twice at the Olympic games
with Jon Pedersen; and international Grand
Prix dressage star Elvis VA with Nadine Capellmann, which represented Germany at the 2006
World Equestrian Games. Elvis was awarded
the Grand Championship at Aachen, 2006. He
has won more than 113,000 Euro.
Espri was the only foal from his dam, the
State premium mare Diplomatin, who brought
the successful Hanoverian jumping lines of
Duellant, Lugano I and Semper Idem into
the E-Line. The sire line of the modern day
jumping phenomenon, the Hanoverian stallion
Stakkato, goes back to Semper idem.
Diplomatin herself was successful in dressage up to an advanced level.
Espri was champion stallion of his licensing and scored 118.8 in his performance test,
which put him in 7th place out of 34 stallions. He has proven to be an important breeding
stallion, with 350 studbook mares to his credit, of which 62 are State Premium mares.
He has 20 licensed breeding stallion sons, of which the full brothers, Escudo I and Escudo II are best known. Escudo II now stands at stud in Canada.
In 1995 Espri was awarded Hanoverian stallion of the year.
Frozen semen from Espri has been used successfully in New Zealand by at least one
Hanoverian breeder, but no fillies have been produced, and the colt foals have been
gelded.

The expressive and typey black 16hh Hanoverian Licensing Champion Escudo II appears in both the top list Jumpers and top list Type. He is one of only two stallions in North America to do so (the other is Pablo). Escudo II is in the Hanoverian Jumper Program and has the highest breed value for Type of any Hanoverian stallion in that Jumper Program (151 type and 134 conformation). Escudo II maintains that top position in the 2009 Hanoverian stallion yearbook and shares his placing with Sandro Hit, a stallion also known to produces typey dressage horses, however Escudo II’s jumping index is much higher. His FN rating is 103 for dressage and 128 for jumping. Escudo II is a class I stallion who completed his testing at Adelheidsdorf with 125.63 — 4th out of 43 stallions. He scored 117.56 for dressage and 125.73 for jumping.
Escudo II produced nine licensed sons and several showjumpers up to GP level, 13 SPS mares and had 45 offspring were selected for Hanoverian auctions. Escudo II has special talent, used in the Celle stallion parade virtually all his life and they have not yet been able to teach a replacement stallion his tricks. He is a talented and typey stallion and his breed values confirm that he passes it on reliably. He is also a gentle character, sweet and well trained.
Escudo II arrived in the U.S. in 2006 and is available for breeding. He is approved by VHW, AHS, GOV, Canadian Warmblood and ISR/OLD N.A. as well as SWANA for Swedish mares only. Escudo II already has a popular and successful licensed son Escuro with the BWP in Belgium.
Besides producing top jumpers and dressage horses the Escudo brothers and their sire Espri have all been on the top of the USEF Leading Hunter Sire list.
